The goal for August is simple to state and difficult to programme: turn an eighteen-minute personal best into a stable ability, then create the conditions for a controlled twenty-minute attempt on the final day of the month.
The strategy
The month alternates split-volume sessions, continuous holds and complementary training. The progression is deliberately conservative because eighteen minutes was already a maximal result. The priority is to absorb it, improve tolerance in the hands and reach the final test without accumulated fatigue.
Travel continues until August 20, so the plan is built to remain practical away from home. Non-plank days stay active but light: walking, easy swimming, mobility and bodyweight work that must never leave residual fatigue in the shoulders or triceps.
The key progression
Early August rebuilds volume through four sets of five minutes, a fourteen-minute continuous hold plus four easy minutes, and three sets of seven minutes. The middle of the month introduces sixteen continuous minutes, six sets of four and a twelve-plus-five-minute technical session.
The key block arrives on August 20 with four sets of six minutes, followed two days later by a controlled eighteen-minute hold. The instruction is explicit: stop at eighteen even if the body feels capable of more. Consolidation matters more than improvisation.
The taper
After the final major volume session—five sets of five minutes on August 24—the workload falls. Three sets of five, one easy ten-minute activation and then two days without meaningful strength work lead into the test.
On August 31 the target is approached in stages: absolute economy through ten minutes, manage the hands through sixteen, reach the established personal best at eighteen, then enter new territory one minute at a time.
The non-negotiable rule
Numbness in the hands is the main limiting signal. The plan does not try to train through it at all costs. If it arrives earlier than usual, becomes painful, leaves weakness, persists after training or appears more often in daily life, the session stops and the issue deserves medical assessment.
The month succeeds through continuity—not by forcing one heroic day.
The specific sessions
18:00 straight-arm plank — new PB
Record established; no further work.4 × 5:00 — 1:30 recovery
Finish every set with a clear margin.14:00 + 3:00 recovery + 4:00 easy
Technical control; not a test.5 × 4:00 — 1:15 recovery
Manageable volume in test position.10:00 continuous, very easy
Relaxation, stable scapulae and breath.3 × 7:00 — 2:00 recovery
21 minutes of specific volume.16:00 + 3:00 recovery + 3:00 easy
Key session, but not maximal.6 × 4:00 — 1:15 recovery
Keep the final sets technically clean.12:00 + 2:00 recovery + 5:00
Finish feeling capable of more.4 × 6:00 — 1:30 recovery
24 minutes; no set near the limit.18:00 continuous — do not exceed
Consolidate the PB.5 × 5:00 — 1:30 recovery
Last true volume session.3 × 5:00 — 2:00 recovery
It should feel easy.10:00 continuous, easy
Final continuous hold before the test.Straight-arm plank — target 20:00
18, then 19, then 20: one minute at a time.THE TAKEAWAYThe test is only the final line. The real plan is to arrive there healthy, rested and ready to enter new territory.
