This was one of the most demanding sessions in the July programme: fourteen continuous minutes in the straight-arm plank, three minutes of recovery and another seven. I had chosen complete rest the day before specifically to arrive ready for it.
Preparing for the long hold
I began with ten minutes of the complete stretching routine, including a gentle median nerve glide. As I now do for longer sessions, I put on a film and kept the timer outside my field of vision.
I did not look at the watch until approximately seven and a half minutes, and even then it was curiosity rather than necessity. My breathing remained entirely nasal.
Fourteen calm minutes
Around ten minutes and thirty seconds, the familiar tingling appeared in my left hand, especially in the thumb, index and middle finger. This time it did not affect my ability to hold the position.
I completed the fourteen minutes with an unexpected sense of calm. For a few moments, I even felt that I could have continued for much longer.
Recovery and the final seven
During the three-minute recovery, I loosened my hands and moved my shoulders. The tingling disappeared completely before the second block.
The final seven-minute hold began well. Numbness returned around minute four and stayed until the end, but the quality of the position remained intact.
The real result
The most striking part of the day was not simply completing twenty-one minutes. It was the serenity with which I managed the work. The film helped, but the deeper sensation was that my body and mind were adapting to durations that had recently felt intimidating.
The numbness remains the principal limiting signal. Its recurrence should be recorded carefully, and any worsening, persistence or weakness would justify professional assessment rather than more force.
Confidence earned
The previous recovery day proved strategically correct. Rest did not interrupt the programme; it helped produce one of its strongest sessions.
I left with enormous satisfaction because I felt in control of the training instead of subjected to it. That is the kind of confidence that can support a future personal record.
THE TAKEAWAYConfidence grows when a duration that once created fear becomes work you can manage with composure.
