I approached the twelve-minute opening hold with respect and concentration. It was no longer simply a volume set: it was a sustained exposure close to the kind of continuous effort required by the larger objective.
The first twelve minutes
After five minutes of stretching, I began the straight-arm plank. The position remained solid through roughly five minutes and thirty seconds. Around minute nine, numbness developed in the fingers—especially the thumb, index and middle finger of my left hand.
Small finger movements did not resolve it, but I completed the twelve minutes with manageable effort and without a technical collapse.
Six, then four
After three minutes of recovery, I started the second hold. The six-minute set became demanding around minute four, but I completed it without failure.
Two minutes of recovery led into the final four-minute hold, which was completed normally. The planned straight-arm volume reached twenty-two minutes.
What the session proved
Completing twelve continuous minutes and then adding another ten minutes of quality work showed improving recovery between holds. It was probably the first workout of the cycle that clearly signalled a change of level.
The rest day before the session likely contributed to the result. Respecting recovery was not time taken away from training; it was part of the reason the work could be completed.
The signal in the hand
The recurring numbness in the thumb, index and middle finger may be consistent with irritation or compression along the median-nerve pathway, but a training diary cannot diagnose its cause. Hand placement, load distribution, wrist mobility and the behaviour of the symptom after the hold all deserve attention.
If the sensation becomes stronger, persists, produces weakness or increasingly appears in everyday life, it warrants assessment by an appropriate health professional rather than an attempt to train through it.
THE TAKEAWAYTwenty-two minutes of work moved the training forward. The real discipline is to progress without ignoring the signals that come with it.
